I have an iPod - a present from Dave. I've been looking for the perfect docking station: next to the bed, so I can remember to leave it on charge overnight, and preferably replacing my clock/radio, so I can wake up to Classic FM, the iPod, or some loud and intrusive noise. The radio should, of course, be DAB not FM, because I'm not spending money on obselete technology.

Could I find such a thing? Nope. DAB clock/radios, yes, even some with jack plug inputs - but they won't charge the iPod, only play from it (and dangle it on the end of a clumsy cable). Docking station alarm clocks, yes - with FM radios. Various shops have agreed that such a thing should exist, but doesn't.

But today, I found it! In the obvious place to look for cutting-edge geeky technology. Sainsburys.

Yes, really. They have a catalogue that shows their new Christmas gifts range. It's in there. Made by Goodmans, it seems, and £60. We'll investigate further before buying.

Today, thanks to a cold, I am doped out of my mind. So, I have done a mindless task that I've been putting off because it's so boring. My iPod is now synced with the new lap-top, not the old one.

Yes, that's right, thanks to a brilliant design decision by Apple, you can only sync to one PC, and as soon as you sync to a new one, it can't copy the library that's on the iPod down to the PC, it has to delete the lot and start from scratch. So I've copied the files from old laptop to a USB plug-in hard disc, then from said hard disc to new lap-top (wanted them there anyway), then uploaded into iTunes. Well, mostly. Only another gig or so to go...

Doing the copying while mindless is usefully turning a Bug into a Feature. I just wish Apple hadn't made that design decision while in the same mental state. FFS guys, this is a storage device that can play MP3s. What's so hard about a simple drag&drop interface instead of all this messing about? I don't WANT an extra copy of every file on there on my PC, in its own directory! I don't want a special application for doing the copying, I've got Windows Explorer for moving files. I just want to drag&drop a bunch of folders from PC to player, and have it play them!
