Hoping to hop.

So, I'm home, and we're experimenting with various means of getting me mobile while not weight-bearing on the leg in the cast for even a fraction of a second. I have a walking frame, I have the new crutches from France, I have Dave's old ones (different design), I have assorted frames, perching stools, and armchairs with solid arms to push myself up from.
The basic problem is that to get anywhere, I have to either hop on the good leg, or take (and balance) all my weight on my arms. Balancing is all very well on a nice solid, stable support (such as frames and so on), but I'm not up to doing that on crutches. Also, hopping seems to be extremely hard work, and I've just realised why. Me, slow on the uptake? My thigh muscles ache, to the point of going into cramp overnight. I tried to rub them better, and they hurt more. Taking a look... ah, yes, that would be the right thigh that I landed on when I fell down the stairs, the one that still has huge blue/purple/black bone-deep bruises that I've been totally ignoring, right? Um. I wonder why it isn't responding as well as I might hope? Yes, part of it really is because I'm a lazy, unfit uncoordinated wimp, but maybe I do have some slight excuse.
