I was saying something like that to a colleague at work the other day. We'd been saying about how socialising by electronic means was comparatively new, say the last 5 years or so, and I started reminiscing about the ancient and primitive system I'd used at college. The one to which I once contributed via a punched-card reader. A few sums suggested that this must have been about 20 years ago. Out of idle curiosity, I dredged up the name of the system from what was left of my memory, and went Googling.

And I found it. "GROGGS - General Purpose Reverse-Ordered Gossip Gathering System"
It still exists!

What's more, the GROGGS Archives still exist (though only accessible if you can prove you had an ID back then - apparently there are legal issues about making them generally public).
"You explicitly may not give any other person access to the archive through your account, copy any part of the archive in any permanent form other than material for which you yourself hold the copyright, or distribute material from the archive in any other way."
Which is a shame, but there you go.

I think I have copyright to this bit:
"Item B1771213 from Eskarina (JF101) at 12.13 on Fri 26 Jun
Subject: Probably my last grogg."

Yes, that was the last time I accessed it. Year not given, but it was 1987, and the day before my graduation ceremony. Looks like the first time was in November 1986.

But now... yes, it still exists, it's still active. And several of the contributors are names (well, userids) I remember from 20 years ago. Now, do I go and introdcue myself and get addicted again, or not?
