The obligatory "where's she gone?" post. Tudor Arms, Slimbridge, for the annual "Berkeley" HOTT weekend.

Last year was my first time, and my first army. Well, first "real" army (the ducks) and also first Edible Army (the cheese). This time I've been to a few more of these events, have a bit more confidence in my knowledge of the rules, and had to decide which armies to take. My standing army (the one I use for half the battles) will be the Chess one I used at Burton, as I was quite pleased with how it performed there. It's fun, and battles are fast. I'm taking the Ducks along as a spare, but the new one is Kallyr's Vingans. The HeroGeneral base I did a while back and documented in loving detail on Flickr, the various bases Gregory painted for me, and a couple of extras that I only finished this morning. Who, me, delay till the last minute then panic? Me? I got a whole 4 hours sleep last night, and the night before...

This wasn't the army I was going to bring, but I made the mistake of asking what the extra "theme" was for silly prizes this year. Best use of a cat, not necessarily dead. None of my armies contained cats - to what could I add one? Well, an Orlanthi army can always use Alynxes. So there they are - lurkers. One controlling Yikini/Vingan and a small one up a tree, a big one and another small one at ground level.

And I miscounted the bases Gregory had done for me, and discovered I needed more points, fast. So I've implemented an idea I had a while back and started exploring in a story - the Vingan Mile Throw Javelin feat. It throws a javelin one mile. Exactly one mile. Not much use in battle unless you know your enemy is exactly one mile away. Which means a stationary position, sighters, not moving much between shots... artillery, in fact. I'd picked up the figures a few weeks back, hadn't expected to need them this fast. Done. Final basing finished over breakfast. The army design in terms of troop types is a bit weird - we'll see.

And then there's the expected Edible Army, this time working on the useful fact that many biscuits are the same size as HOTT bases, and animal-shaped sweets can be purchased. I have the bits, I'll design and assemble at the pub tonight.

Driving down from work, possibly via the Tescos south of Buckingham as I have an idea there are other bits I'd like for army assembly, will meet others down there. Two days staying in the pub, a few hundred yards walk from Slimbridge. (Drat, that's what I forgot - binoculars!) HOTT all day, random gaming in the evening. Drive home Sunday night.
