We did indeed go out for the promised meal - quite a lot of us. Nick and MOB actually got out of a freeform on time, so we arranged to all go pubbing together (Weatherspoons) and catch up on Sun County. It sounds like we agree, more or less, with the exception that we're going to include as much stuff as we can lay our hands on, not feel constrained by a 128-page limit.

Back in time for a game due to run from 8-11, thus taking me straight in to the Singalong starting at 11. Or that was the plan...

Neil Smith had come up with a Char-Un game - not a setting I've played with much before. It turned out that this wasn't so much a scenario as a set of pre-gen characters with relationships and goals. Light blue touch-paper and stand back. And off we went... ooh, that was fun! Only.... the closing ceremony was meant to be from 10-11. Well, so what? I had no intention of going, I'd already told the organisers that if they had considered calling me up, please not to bother. But Neil wanted to for some reason. So at 10, we stopped, and went over to the main hall - still doing auction, ceremony postponed. Back to the game - where were we? new time, stop, over to the hall - postponed again, back again, where were we? Third time the ceremony actually happened, and as usual, was a huge series of "thank you X, come and get a prize from this selection of... oh, you've got all of that?" This was no exception. And yes, despite my request, they did drag me up onto the stage. I have no idea what was on there as prizes - didn't bother looking. Why the ***&^*^&& are they wasting my time doing public thanks for doing things that I do for FUN? That I do because no-one can stop me? When I've specifically asked them not to waste everyone's time on it?

Finally, finally, back to the game, which we'd left just as it was coming to a head - I'd been half-way through the rant to the Lunar missionary in which I told her to take her Empire and stuff it somewhere inappropriate, the alliance was over. Wrecked atmosphere or what? So we got back into that - and then Nick, not knowing how this game had been repeatedly stitched up, came in wanting the room for the Singalong, due to start NOW. After a weekend of everything in sight being screwed up by over-running freeforms and things being delayed, oh no, nothing could be delayed by an RPG, it isn't as if that's what the weekend is supposed to be all about or anything. I did not have hysterics (quite). I did hand him the songbooks and CD and suggest that while I'd love to do a Singalong, I'd also really like it if at least one event this weekend wasn't totally wrecked by timetables going wrong. He and the Singalong moved (that room would have been far too small for them anyway).

And back to the game... this was where my sweet innocent little girl started explaining to her male relatives and friends that maybe she wasn't just going to sit there and be a prize any more. The duel over who was going to be the new chief (and own her) suddenly went a bit one-sided. "Let me explain to you about power", she said, and released five fetishes, three of which she hadn't possessed five minutes earlier.

And then things boiled over. This is the only game I've ever been in where every PC ended up dead. In some cases with the player not only applauding the manner of their death, but actively assisting and enhancing it. It was a wonderful bit of melodrama, and left me on a high for hours. Best game of the weekend, easily, and well in the running for best game ever.

Feeling all relaxed and happy, I then drifted around with some bottles, starting the first serious bit of drinking that weekend (it was now about 1am Sunday night/Monday morning). Lots of long chats with people, some more sober than others. Dave staggered off to bed giggling and smelling of liquorice at around 2, I think Gregory (and the sheep handcuffed to his wrist) went a bit later, Donald (still apparently sober) retired by perhaps 4. And Alex Ferguson, Martin Smart and I (and a bottle of Tobermory and one of pseudo-Calvados) sat there and chatted. Separate post later on some of the chat content - but as it started to get light, we (I) realised that there really wasn't much point in going to bed. So I didn't.

PCs:
aging chief of tribe
Elder son, just back from Sartar where he was in the Lunar army
Younger son, back from university in Glamour
Me, betrothed to elder son but in love with younger son
My dad, warband leader, probable next chief
The shaman (spit!)

And my character sheet included ratings of how easily I thought I could control them :)
My plan started with step 1: kick Lunars out of Erigia. It carried on from there :)

I can't wait until I move and am settled in in Boston and can start paying attention to such things again. *sigh*

I'll have to start looking for Gloranthaphiles in Boston, too.

If you can't find local gamers, there's always PBeM.

This is true. And I may one day give that a try again.
