Although I do use Notepad (the true glory of which, to quote a friend of mine, is that "It never tries to do anything even remotely clever, so you know any mistakes are your own"), I am a firm devotee of Textpad these days.

I hand code but do like my old 1-4-All html programmer, the only automatic bit of which I use is the color-picker to hex code thingy. Notepad's a bit too hardcore :>
