I'd seen adverts for the Maplin Minibook and been impressed. Only 650g, small enough to fit in a handbag. Runs Linux, so I'd expect good speed for the memory-quantity. On Saturday we were passing a Maplin, and dropped in for a play - what better way to estimate how fast it'll open my files than to put the SD card in and try it out?
Sadly, the answer is "slowly or not at all". In a race with the PDA (two years out of date, and less memory), it lost, badly. I gather it isn't upgradable, so I can't just throw more memory at the problem.
Shame, I loved the size, the display is great, the keyboard suits me perfectly. But a several-minute wait for a quick Ctrl-F search of a PDF makes it useless for the intended purpose.
