Primus - the local one on tap. A nice lager.
Lindemans Gueuze - partway between blonde and brun, huge quantities of flavour, one to be savoured.
Charles Quint - medium flavour, lots of head, comes in a four-handled jug with a great story. Yes, I have photos.
(Trying all three over lunch, possibly a mistake. Zzzz.)
Caney blonde - another local - pleasant, nothing special by Belgian standards.
Rodenbach - dark, hint of fruit, will go for that again. Another to savour, not to drink with dinner.

Luxembourg

Enid asked me to report back on Luxembourg, as she thought it was lovely and one of her friends had said it was horrible.

First impression, as the TomTom took us to the centre - interesting mix of old and new. Next, as we found a carpark without benefit of TomTom - well sign-posted. Once on foot - lovely! Cafes, trees, shade, interesting shops, bits of castle from the ancient chunky ones to the delicate fairy-tale pinks, friendly people, and the centre square, the Place d'Armees, had a brass band and various tenors performing. Got a room right on the Place for not-too-much-really: the Hotel Francais.
This place is trying for the record of nicest city I know. We're going to shift the car from multi-storey to free-on-the-street now its gone 6, then wander and find a meal. Lux has the most Michelin-starred eateries per capita of anywhere in Europe, I'm told. We'll try them out.

I know this is meant to be a multi-national city, but this is getting silly. It's smaller than Luton, so how come it has all this stuff?

To start with, my PDA/phone means I can post to LJ-mobile from anywhere. Hence this.

Using the TomTom (latest new toy) means not only are we less likely to get lost on normal routes, we can do things like this morning, when we said to take us to Luxembourg avoiding motorways, and got taken down country lanes and through little villages that we'd never have seen the usual way.

Text messages - not hi-tech, I know. But they mean we contacted a friend near Grenoble, and can meet up with her next weekend - hi Kelly!

And email means we contacted Greg Privat and get to stay with him near Paris on the way back.

Communication, information, no matter where we are. This is good.
