Saturday's trip, Tuesday's experiment

Dave had another of his inspirations for the weekend: since we liked birdwatching so much, why not go to the RSPB's Bird Fair, near Rutland Water? So we did that. It rained a bit, but the event was VERY well organised, and we had a great time being amazed at all the places you can go on birdwatching holidays, all the ways you can feed birds in your garden, and all the pretty optical toys.
Ah, yes, gadgets. Who, us?
Dave had been looking at Telescopes. He knew what he wanted, subject to seeing it and taking advice, and we found one, and we agree that it's just right for us. It's called a Mighty Midget, and it folds down to tiddly-size. I haven't yet tried to put it in my handbag, but it's an experiment worth trying.
As I mentioned in the last post, one thing I knew was that I wanted more zoom on my camera. Only, a little tiny Ricoh Caplio R6 just isn't meant to have lenses fitted on the front. We asked at a camera dealer where we were buying battery chargers - no way. No can do. Buy new camera, this time a real one.
But... the place where we were looking at 'scopes had a Gadget. It lets you clamp a camera on the back of a 'scope. Any camera that has a hole for mounting a tripod (like mine does!), you can attach. Yes, it's a bit fiddly, but it works: they demoed it on my camera. So.... we spent pennies.
Tonight, we found the tripod and started playing. Full details are now in a suitable Set on Flickr. Here's the end result:

and the Gadget that produced it

Me happy!
