Geekdom Rulez OK?
Jul. 17th, 2009 10:41 amA comment spotted on a blog: "the term ‘geek’ at some point becomes average and non-geek is labeled as... ‘unemployed’ probably."
They may have a point. An interest in Harry Potter movies seems to be enough to qualify as a "geek" these days, and much of the discussion on that thread was about the use of an iPhone to Google facts with which to bring sense into an argument. iPhone? Why did these people wait for an iPhone to have Internet access in their pockets? I've been doing that for years!
"Geek" now seems to mean "can more or less use the most marketed technology, watches the most marketed films and TV shows, has a memory, has at least one hobby."
