This possibly brings new meaning to the term "more widely". OED word of the day.

eikonal, n. and a.
A. n. The optical path length of a ray between specified points in the object and image spaces; more widely, a function of position denoting the time taken by a wave-front to reach a specified point.
B. adj.
1. Physics. Designating an equation which expresses the eikonal in terms of the wave velocity.
2. Particle Physics. Of, pertaining to, or designating a method of approximating the behaviour of particles by the use of eikonals.

I can see I'll have to use that word more often: but only with the "more widely" used meaning, of course. Wouldn't want to be obscure.

Well, that's what I'm told.

Reading it, it seems entirely reasonable to me. An interesting bit of computing archeology: Win XP or Vista would require far more code to do all that!
(Non-geek friends: read it anyway. You'll understand all you need to.)

I won't try to explain the details of how the link works out (it's my brother-in-law's family), but a couple my little sister knows are trying to win a competition that'll give them a dream wedding. It's down to the last five, and they're still in.
If you wouldn't mind doing me a favour, go to the Gemini FM site, and the competition page

Look down for Mary and Tom - she's written a rather fun little poem, that gives her marks in my book, anyway. Couple number 3. Vote, please.
