....nuts?

It was bad enough when I discovered last week that Cadburys Dairy Milk chocolate (you know, the one with the advertising slogan that explains how many glasses of the white stuff go into each bar) now has a warning label stating that it contains... milk. Not to mention the Cadburys Fruit and Nut, which, we now know, contains nuts. I'm sure I'd never have guessed that from the name.

This morning, I opened a pack of ready-to-eat king prawns, intending to put them in my sandwiches. Out of idle curiosity, I read the label. Imagine my horror to discover a special allergy warning label informing me that they contained.... seafood! I'd never have guessed! I then read the detailed ingredients list, which was surprisingly reassuring: prawns, salt. No E-numbers, no water. Thank you, Sainsburys.

Who comes up with these things? And why?

One of the coder forums I belong to came up with a list of specialist search engines for when Google won't quite do the job. Most in the main article are for either music or recipes, but there are more in the comments. I haven't tried any of them, this is a quick note for my benefit as much as that of my readers.

I've been given a new PC in work, so going through installing all the relevant software and getting the configuration right. At one point today, MS Firewall sprang up and warned me that a dangerous bit of software was attempting to access my network, and it had blocked it for my protection. The bit of malware in question? Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio. Yes, I can quite see why a Microsoft product wouldn't want to trust anything from a dodgy source like that :)
edit: it blocks Microsoft Visual Sourcesafe, too.
