What with Dave's back, we didn't camp this time. Took it easy, played motel militia, staying 4 miles down the road in Lutterworth - a pub/hotel called the Greyhound. Nice, grade II listed. Took one tent with us for changing, storage, and filling the line. I was a bit migrainey and tired to start with, so I didn't go on the gun - heavy wool uniform is not what I wanted. Work dress Saturday, full hoops and the new blue dress from Gettysburg Sunday. I need to add a hook or two to make sure bodice and skirt stay together, and possibly a few adjustments at the top - I've lost weight, enough for even corseted shape to change.

We didn't even cook - Tescos sandwiches Saturday lunch, general Washington pub meet Saturday night, packed lunch Sunday provided by hotel (yes, they can do sandwiches at short notice, but only from things out for breakfast. Bacon and tomato, help yourself to fruit).

And we strolled around, Dave getting admiring glances (and derisive yells from the Rockbridge). He does look good in waistcoat, cravat, frockcoat and top hat, and the silver-topped cane makes it.

Did some sewing on the second uniform blouse (fitting cuffs to gathered sleeves). Looked round the house - Stanford Hall itself is lovely! Picked up a few bits from the craft shop. Generally relaxed. It was good.

... until I do this "race for life" thing. There was a training plan. What with being away, hurting my foot, being treated by paramedics for heat exhaustion what feels like every other weekend, and so on, the training has not happened.

I think I'll be walking it. Finishing is the objective, after all. Well, raising money for cancer research is the objective.

And I really must hunt down some sponsors. I set up the web page, I advertised it, but very few responses. Of course, the fact that it needs a credit card not just PayPal, so people have to go and find a credit card and type the numbers in, probably isn't helping. If anyone out there wants to sponsor me, *I* take Paypal - the email address is my LJ userid, then (at) yahoo.co.uk. Or if we're going to physically meet (what a concept!) I take cash.

At last. I've always said I prefer my RPG books in e-format. I've been saying that the core HW/HQ books needed a re-print, or to be available as down-loadable PDFs, ever since they went OOP. And here they are!

Busy downloading in the background....

yes, of course I've got them in hard-copy. But you can get an SD card in your handbag when 6 books won't fit. And ctrl-F is a Good Thing.

The Continuum conbook will contain a story by me and Donald: the one we think of as "Londar 2", that started as an exercise in how Vingan warbands operate and how they differ from clan warbands. (And then Kallyr turned up in the middle and disrupted things.)

John Hughes has asked for one for the next YBOT, and we'll see if we can finish "Londar 1" - the one that was both an answer to Donald's description of how Pharon escalates WW raids somewhat, and an answer to a request to see Kallyr making mistakes. Also contains a Kallyr-koala for John's especial benefit.

Both of these are a new idea for me - they'll be published as hard-copy first, and go onto the web-page afterwards, once the book in question is OOP.

And it looks as if the old "Hunting the Marsh Haggis" scenario, that was going into the now-dead Scotscon conbook, will now be used by [livejournal.com profile] newt for his Furnace book. Maybe he'll even find room for "Captured", too.

Three stories and a scenario on the way to hard-copy - I must be waking up again.

The work on the Sun County book continues gently - I'm pretty sure I know what general structure I want now, it's just a question of being ruthless about all the possible content. I'll use the panel at Continuum to get feedback from the intended market, and we'll see where we go from there.
If this comes off, it'll be another new departure for me. I'll get paid for it.
