Where's she been? Wales.
Jul. 6th, 2006 07:47 amAs a means of telling everyone where I am, this would be more use if I filled it in advance, wouldn't it?
Weekend in Blaenau Ffestiniog at an ACW event. We were part of their carnival. Arrived Friday and set up camp - we were the only part of the Washington there, so camping with the Rockbridge. Saturday, into uniform and march to the railway station. Narrow-gauge train down to Porthmadog (carriage shared with drum corps), then wander around buying icecream and being an advert for 40 minutes. Then back on the train and back up the mountain, this time sharing a carriage with General Lee. Different station, so we could march *downhill* through the town and back to camp - about 1.5 miles, at midday, in full uniform. It was hot. Then grab some lunch (what *** let the fire go out? How fast can I relight it?) and off to gun drill. And then to sit in the shade - and to slowly keel over, as the effects of the heat made themselves known. BP check - the machine must have broken, if it was that low and that high a pulse rate I'd be dead or at least falling over. Hmm. Come to think of it... and Dave called in the first-aiders, who are RL paramedics. A bit of time under an oxygen mask later, a few rehydration sachets, and I was under orders to lie down, stay cool, and Do Nothing for the rest of the weekend. Look, I know I'm supposed to be relaxing by order, but I wanted to fight that battle!
Sunday spent Doing Nothing, apart from making rounds for the gun (and enjoying it)
And then we moved on to Dave's aunt and uncle on Angelsey for a few days, and very enjoyable it was too.
But now, off to work! May edit in more details later.
