Slept on it
Jun. 7th, 2006 06:28 am...and more aspects to this whole Stress thing have occured. Downstairs is a pile of DVDs I haven't yet found time to watch. There's two or three computer games I've never loaded on the PC. There's a pile of books I haven't read - several piles. Last Sunday I spent part of the afternoon round at Marc's place, just dossing, and chatting, and being taught how to play Civ4 on his PC. I achieved nothing, I learnt very little, there was no concrete result, for once I didn't feel guilty about any of these things. I did thoroughly enjoy it. (Thanks, Marc!)
I was right, I need to drop stuff.
Then I start thinking about the projects I'd do if I had time - or wasn't so knackered when I did have time. When someone says they don't want me wasting my spare time helping them with technical set-up-a-web-site stuff (my day job) because they want me as a writer/editor, and are willing to pay money for the result, and the project involved is one I'd love to do - that's where I want to spend the time and energy. Yes, I can squash it in the corners, but I'd rather concentrate on just that, no interruptions. I was going to drop a few things to take that on, I think I'll drop a whole lot more to take on that plus dossing.
Re-reading - yes, "dossing" is a term of contempt for what might be better regarded as rest and relaxation, and the fact that it's the first one that comes to the fingers to apply to myself when I consider being lazy probably tells me something, too. I'd better remove the temptation to Do Stuff - if I see a problem, the first thing I do is try to solve it. So I'd better arrange things so I don't see problems.
Will carry on thinking about this. No rushed decisions, smooth hand-over where possible, but things are going to have to go.
