Last Wednesday - no, Tuesday - was a very good day

It didn't start that way. It started with my mum calling me to see if I was all right, since I hadn't updated LJ for ages. Yes, my techophobic mum.

True, when I looked back, it had been a fortnight, but I'd been so busy chasing agencies, and researching employers, and filling in data sheets about who I'd applied to (a depresssingly large number of jobs I hadn't got), and then doing proof-reading for people, and not sleeping very well, I hadn't even managed time to play with the bike. or go for a walk, despite Dave nagging me to sort my health out and... so I decided that I'd do an update once I got back from signing on at the Job Centre. Rushed through the "what have I done since they last saw me?" journal and shot off. And got told, on arrival, that I sign on on Wednesdays. This was Tuesday.

So, that decided it, Dave was right, I needed to chill. If I'd managed to lose a day, de-stressing was called for. I took the camera for a walk.

Biggleswade is a lovely little town, and this time I spotted a "Riverside Walk", down by the old mill. Cobbled path down to the millpond, huge willows over the waterk, daisies, ducks, click, click, click... and a nice chap on a bike pointed out some fish in there - barbel, he said. Big dark shapes, about 18 inches long, and apparently they're unusual. We saw a grey wagtail on the side, too. He went back to work, me being unemployed (useless, waste of space... shut up!) headed down the path by the river, past where the fair parks up. There's ducks. Dunnock. Robins nesting. More ducks. Lots and lots of flowers. I went as far as an old bridge and a seat, then wandered back, found the car and drove home. Time for lunch and to upload some photos, I thought.

So, there I was eating soup at the PC when the phone went. Someone had found my CV online, and wondered if I was still looking for work. I switched on my "alert and interested" voice, while laying private bets with myself which of the three jobs on the market I'd already applied for this was, and the size of the agency. It wasn't. This was direct. Could I come round for a chat this afternoon... sure! So I found my way to the back of the George pub in Hitchin town centre (good start), had a chat, and found that yes, we can help each other even if it turns out to be short-term, and the ones I met at least are nice people. Also, what they're doing (elearning for people who work in care homes) ticks my boxes as being a worthwhile cause. So, I drove back home, to find I'd missed a phone call, and Dave was all puzzled about the message. It was repeated later - yes, I had a job, starting 9:30 tomorrow. About 4 hours from first contact to confirmation.

After the Happy Dance was over, we drove down to Hitchin to look at parking options and show Dave where I'd be. Also to have a meal out... Zizzi's.... mmm...

Going round the Three Moorhens roundabout, there was the first black squirrel I've ever seen. This much luck in one day has to be a good omen.

And since then, I've been in work, and loving it. May post about that later - but for now, I have a job!
