Berkeley day 1 report
Day 1 summary – 3 wins, one loss. Killed three generals and captured a stronghold.
So far I've used Kallyr's Orlanthi for every battle – none of the new armies have had an outing. She's using 4 warband, 2 flyers, 2 shooters, a lurker and a sneaker (so we can test the new sneaker rules).
Round 1, against Colin Evans and an army that Kallyr says were Chaos, probably Tusk Riders. (Orcs, to anyone else). He had a magician general, a hero, and a lot of warband. An even battle until five min to go, when I decided I did not want a draw. Kallyr charged the magician general, with a flyer as backup. Magicians ensorcerel heroes, heroes destroy magicians, this was not going to be a draw... and it wasn't. Troop kill total 12:6 to me, plus a general.

Round 2, and I offered my Lunars as opponents, but they were turned down in favour of something more interesting. The Teddy Bears Picnic, the same army that had beaten my Lunar Cheese a few years ago. Shooters and knights against a warband army. This was never going to be good: in fact, the word “slaughter” comes to mind. At the end, Kallyr was left standing alone against 8 units, whle a Sneaker hung around in one corner of the battlefield and a Flyer had fled to another corner. I'd killed two of the enemy. Two. Still, I hadn't lost my general.

Round 3 – Andy Thomas and some mechs. “Mostali” says Kallyr. He had artillery and a behemoth: the artillery carefully positioned so that I could advance to charge range under cover of a hill. Many troops died, the Lurker several times (did a nice job of distracting beasts and shooters on the left flank) but even when I took out his general, he hadn't lost enough to have lost the battle. So Kallyr charged on through the gap left in his centre to hit the stronghold, with a flyer to help.

Round 4 – Jeff Herbert and some Barbarians. Probably another Orlanthi tribe, the hero was riding a giant alynx. Flyers hit his right flank and did a lovely job of disrupting it (I can't believe he withdrew the hero from the centre to go flyer-chasing!) before they died (because he hates flyers). Shooters held his riders off on the other wing, and my Sneaker evaded and ZoCed anything approaching Kallyr's left flank. Warband and Kallyr charged in the middle, and eventually avoided the Behemoth for long enough for her to kill the enemy general in his chariot. 10 points of troops to 7 of mine (2 flyers and a sneaker), plus the general.
Happy but tired. Dave turned up at 5, also happy but tired (he's been over at Slimbridge birdwatching). We've booked a table for later, and I'm dozing, writing this, and inspecting photos before dinner.
