My route to work, on Google Maps

Google maps now lets you drag&drop the line it produces when you tell it to give directions. As a result, I can now get it to display my real route to work, not the one it came up with.
Looky here
There used to be a coach tour of some of the prettiest villages in Bedfordshire. This covers some of them.
Past the Shuttleworth collection (look out for low-flying vintage aircraft, they hedge-hop), past more of the Shuttleworth Estate, looking at the view of the House to the left, down into Old Warden village,

complete with thatched everything including the bus-stop.

Up out of there, turn right, and head along the road to Bedford. Look out for buzzards, try to avoid the partridge, pheasant, and muntjac. As you come over the top of the Greensand Ridge, look at the view ahead, including the Cardington hangers. Down and into the long straight, then a few sharp wiggles as you cross the railway line,

with even better views of the hangers.

And into Cardington village, past the rare breeds farm and slowing to look at the sheep, the miniature ponies, and the interesting chickens. Left past the pub, the 14th century church and the village sign,

and you're heading out again towards the main roundabout where the Bedford bypass meets this road, the one from Sandy, and Priory Business Park. Beware rabbits, and possibly moorhens from the lake.
This isn't an easy route to drive, it's too narrow, twisty, and full of potholes for that. But it's fun. In winter it doesn't get gritted, so I have to fall back on my secondary route, through three more pretty villages and past the oldest Maypole in the country. But this one's nicer :)
