"Little and often" is the way to go.

Yesterday, as previously reported, I managed about 10 minutes on my feet pottering around the kitchen before deciding that enough was enough. A little more pottering occurred late evening, too, after Dave had gone to bed.

This morning, prior to coming downstairs, I sorted out some of the pile of clothes that had been washed but not put away ("There's nowhere to hang them!" - no, that's because you filled the hanging space with T-shirts that should be folded and in the drawers). Then there was an "ouch" and some time lying down, then some more pottering in the craft/computer room, investigating whether the little three-legged folding camping stool will do as a leg-support so I can sit down up there. (Yes, it will, once the office chair is a little higher, since I can now lift the bad leg high enough to get it on the stool without knocking said stool over). More rest, then downstairs, and allowed Dave to get me breakfast.

I've just done more kitchen pottering, putting things away, sorting the recycling into a bag to go out, and chopping bits to go into pasta for lunch.

Looks like a 5-10 min potter followed by an hour sitting down with the leg raised works. The next experiment is cutting down the painkillers to a lower level - still every four hours, but a lower dose.

Tonight I may try going upstairs earlier and doing more pottering before bed - if I can clear the clothes completely, I'll be able to get at the main fabric stash and the thin white cotton I need to add a pocket to the new skirt. Clearing the computer/hobby room might let me get some painting done, but really the next job in there is for Dave to put my main PC back together, so I'd better leave him room to work. He took it apart to give me a better graphics card and a replacement hard disc, then I messed things up by escaping from hospital earlier than expected.

Random thoughts on the Jubilee Pageant

Wandsworth Bridge is a generally good place for things to start.

All this discussion of how to get the best view, and it's a shame that Her Majesty isn't going to get much of a view at all. Stuck on a rather boring modern boat in the middle, with no sight of the fun stuff.

Edit: watching her now, and the boat she's on looks rather more fun than had been described in the paper. Still not much view of the rest of the pageant for her, though.

If this is true, Faeroese is a wonderful language

Just finished reading "Attention all shipping" by Charlie Connelly, in which he visits all the areas of the shipping forecast. His visit to the Faeroes apparently included a look at an ancient phrase book. I'm not going to check if these really exist, in case they don't - they should, and I don't want the facts to get in the way of a good story.
Brenna krakk - "burning the three-legged stool after turning down a suitor"
Fjall - "to go into the hills to work amongst the sheep"
skadahvalur - "whalemeat sold at auction to defray the costs of damage to boats"
vevlingur - "a cord worn around the sleeve when digging for puffins"
skeinkjari - "man who goes among wedding guests offering them drink"
